For the next instalment in our Inspiring the Next Generation series, we spoke with Anthony Wade to find out what he thinks it takes to be a professional decorator and how he is helping the next generation to kick-start their career in the industry.

Although it wasn’t the career path that he had originally planned to follow, Anthony Wade soon fell in love with painting and decorating and worked hard to establish himself as a ‘professional’. Joining the PDA gave the sole trader access to invaluable advice, support and opportunities, and over the last 30 years, he has picked up several national awards and even trained the ‘apprentice of the year’ – showing that hard work, determination and graft really does pay off. Anthony is currently training up his own apprentice and is passionate about instilling his knowledge and skills in those he teaches. His apprentice, Calib Dyson has been working with Anthony for over eight months and has demonstrated a strong will to succeeded in the trade as well as excellent personal skills with customers.

When it comes to achieving the best finish – especially with tasks like cutting in - Anthony is a firm believer in using quality tools to get the job done to a high standard.
